2 day course

This two day course is designed for all staff concerned with the operation and management of water systems in buildings and who may be appointed for carrying out Legionella risk assessments.  The course will provide delegates with knowledge about the Legionella bacteria and the skills to apply that knowledge in managing Legionella in building water systems.

The course objectives are to provide delegates with the knowledge and skills to:

Understand the medical aspects of Legionella and the diseases it causes


Know how Legionella colonises water systems


List the diverse environments in which Legionella can cause problems


Identify and interpret the relevant statutory and non- statutory documentation


Identify and evaluate risk areas in relation to water safety


Recognise risk and be familiar with Legionella risk assessment and record keeping


Manage the risks of Legionella contamination


Identify types of disinfection and how to apply them


Sample and test water for microbial contamination


Describe the format and layout of Legionella risk assessments


Describe a risk assessment and logbook and know how to record relevant     

information


Understand how water system components should operate safely


Have the knowledge and skills to disinfect a hot and cold water system 


Undertake temperature and water sampling


Understand the microbiology of water systems and microbiological analysis
